I'm racing in the New York City Triathlon this weekend. Round 2 of racing on a full-sized bike and I'll be wearing a wetsuit. That picture shows the dawn swim start with the GW Bridge in the background to the north. Swim is from 96th to 77th St.
Bike is 26 miles around the West Side Highway and into Central Park.
Run is 6.2 miles through the Upper West Side and Central Park.
My goal is simple: beat Jamie Koven.
Top 5 About NYC Triathlon:
5.) It's Right Outside My Door
- The swim start is at 96th St. and the Hudson River. 6:30AM start. I live at 96th and Riverside Park. I'll be asleep until 6. Getting up at 4AM is for the birds and people who have to milk animals. No thank you.
4.) Wetsuit
- I got smoked on the swim in Philly because I came ill-prepared. Won't happen Sunday.
3.) IPod's are optional
- Most races make iPod's illegal for half-assed "safety reasons." Not NYC. You can only wear them on the run. My line-up for the 6.2mile run- Lots of GirlTalk, LCD Soundsystem and M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" on heavy rotation
"New York is as far away as you can live from the government!"- LCD Soundsystem
2.) Early start time + God Awful Heat
- Supposed to be 90 w/ sweltering humidity. Race goes off in the early morning when the weather will feel just right. Unless I shank and take 4 hours to finish, my run should occur in optimal ~78 degrees.
1.) Dark Night in IMAX post-race
- Got a big nerd date with Sparkler and a bunch of other guys who can have nuanced arguments about the merits of Forbidden Planet vs. Midtown Comics.
I know, none of us are married! I can't believe it either.

Mamma Mia - 32.6
Hellboy - 24.4
Hancock - 20.1
Wall-E - 13.8
Biggest weekend of the year, easy. Mamma Mia could do 40.
